What you'll be be responsible for:

    • Prepare tax compliance items (tax returns, election forms, sales tax returns, and foreign reporting forms including T1134, T106, and T1135) 
    • Prepare quarterly and annual consolidated tax provisions 
    • Calculate tax instalments for multiple entities within the organization 
    • Review and advise on tax clauses in legal contracts 
    • Prepare defence and correspondence with tax authorities (CRA, Revenue Quebec, IRS) for tax audits, voluntary disclosure, and collections
    • Draft tax technical memos and assist with tax research 
    • Manage the analysis of new legislation as well as the development and implementation of new legislation 
    • Prepare proforma or models to project taxable income for financial planning and strategy purposes 
    • Research on tax impact on proposed activities (new product initiatives, new foreign vendors, reorgs)
    • Assist with tax structuring, reorganization, and transactions 
    • Assist with month-end close:
    • a. Prepare accruals for corporate tax liability and provision for tax accrual 
      b. Prepare variance analysis and perform reconciliation of tax accounts 
      c. Prepare / review inter-company transactions and transfer pricing 
    • Periodic review of inter-company service and transfer pricing compliance
    • Understand the tax impact of business operations and ensure that tax needs are identified, communicated, and provided
    • Assist in continuous identification and development of efficient tax compliance and tax provision processes, including automation, developing and implementing procedural changes and/or processes
    • Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process

Skills and experience we're looking for:

    • Minimum 5 years of broad-based corporate tax compliance and accounting experience
    • a. Must have experience in Canadian corporate tax in public company or controlled by a public company
      b. 4+ years of experience working in tax within a public accounting firm and at least 1 year at the manager level
    • CPA/CGA/CA designation required
    • Experience in both public accounting and industry is highly desirable
    • a. Excellent foundation of accounting knowledge and have experience with month-end process 
    • Excellent technical knowledge and highly experienced in compliance items:
    • a. Preparing corporate T2 tax returns, GST/HST returns, and Country by Country Reporting, election forms and foreign disclosure forms (T1134, T1135 and T106) 
      b. Preparing tax provision in accordance with IFRS (knowledge in IAS12) 
    • Knowledge of Taxprep, Netsuite and Blackline is an asset 
    • Knowledge of financial institution indirect tax or corporate tax in an asset 
    • Great technical research and writing skills 
    • a. Can pull relevant case law and technical interpretations to support a tax position 
      b. Excellent at writing a tax opinion or memo, while balancing the technical vs. understandability for non-tax stakeholders 
    • Experience with legal contract review and providing recommendations from a tax perspective 
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively to effectively prioritize multiple projects to meet deadlines and produce high-quality work in a fast-paced environment
    • Detail-oriented while balancing big-picture thinking
    • Has a can-do attitude and the ability to switch between preparer and reviewer roles depending on the task at hand
    • Ability to work effectively remotely while playing a key role engaging with cross functional and global groups within the company
    • Project management skills are a must:
    • a. Have the ability to be the cornerstone of Finance/Tax and collaborate with other business functions in the org in order to drive projects forward 
      b. Have the ability to get to the bottom of facts and determine the appropriate next steps and propose timelines 
      c. Have the ability to execute and then monitor and reiterate 
    • Industry experience preferred
