DREAM (formerly known as DREAM Charter School and Harlem RBI), is an innovative educational and youth development organization, serving over 2,500 East Harlem and South Bronx youth by providing free, high-quality summer and after-school programs to youth ages 5-22 years in an intensive multi-year commitment that connects youth and families to age-appropriate programs and passionate professional staff over time.

DREAM is seeking dynamic individuals to serve as Development Development (Advancement) Interns. The ideal candidate understands and values DREAM’s comprehensive approach to youth development and inspire, lead, and motivate DREAM staff to drive outcomes that support youth in recognizing their potential and realizing their dreams. 

Like all DREAM staff members Development (Advancement) Interns should demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission and values of DREAM and should have substantial expertise in all areas of responsibility. Summer 2020 Advancement Roles:

Communications Intern

    • The Communications Intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities and will work closely with the Communications staff while have the opportunity for small independent project management as well. For the right candidate, this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the details of non-profit communications and marketing.
    • Creating social media content and monitoring accounts/metrics;
    • Support in preparing for organization-wide events by creating collateral, talking points, etc.;
    • Assist the Communications team in the execution of all external facing documents, etc.;
    • Managing merchandise organization and distribution;
    • Building and maintaining press lists;Perform clerical duties, including filing, organizing existing files and data entry;
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Hours: Monday-Fridays: 10 am – 5 pm from late May - Mid-August
    • Location: East Harlem

    • QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Undergraduate status at an accredited University;
    • Excellent writing and interpersonal communications skills;
    • Experience in nonprofit marketing & communications, a plus;
    • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel and Internet);
    • Ability to work & manage projects within a team structure as well as independently;
    • Motivation, the ability to take initiative and use creative problem solving skills;
    • Attention to detail is a must;
    • Sense of humor. Interest in working in an organization that focuses on social impact

Special Events Intern

    • The Special Events Intern will gain behind the scenes knowledge of event-related logistics to help produce our annual fundraisers and school events:
    • Help plan and execute Championship Day, our annual community block party in celebration of our REAL Kids summer program for over 1,000 attendees
    • Support with designing, creating, and executing the overall system of ongoing solicitation strategy for silent auction, and gift bag sponsors
    • Support with post-event wrap up such as reviewing and carrying out mailings to our donors
    • Gain experience with Salesforce by learning to navigate the database to research donor information and create invoices
    • Work closely with Senior Manager of Special Events & Special Events Coordinator on other events as needed
    • Research, analyze and present various vendor options to team for event needs and other related projects
    • Clerical Duties, including filing, data tracking, merchandise inventory, mailings, and Salesforce maintenance
    • Other duties as assigned. 
    • Hours: Monday-Fridays: 10 am – 5 pm from late May - Mid-August
    • Location: East Harlem


    • QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Undergraduate status at an accredited University;
    • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel and Internet);
    • Ability to work & manage projects within a team structure as well as independently;
    • Motivation, the ability to take initiative and use creative problem solving skills with an attention to detail Excellent organizational skills;
    • Works well with quick deadlines;
    • Sense of humor. Interest in working in an organization that focuses on social impact
    • Prior event experience a plus

Major Gifts Intern

    • The Major Gifts intern will have a diverse set of responsibilities and have an excellent opportunity to gain experience on a major gifts team and learn about donor stewardship:
    • Execute Team Sponsorship campaign stewardship by becoming intimately familiar with our summer REALKids program;
    • Work closely with other interns to visit multiple teams per week throughout the summer;
    • Assist with Corporate Partnership stewardship including lead sponsor planning and execution for the end of summer celebration event, Championship Day;
    • Support Salesforce database management;
    • Assist with donor prospect research;
    • Assist with corporate volunteer engagements throughout the summer including softball and wiffle ball tournaments;
    • Assist with supporting the execution of events and stewardship for the DREAM Ambassadors
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Hours: Monday - Friday; 10a - 5p from late May - Mid-August
    • Location: East Harlem

    • QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Undergraduate status at an accredited University;
    • Excellent writing and interpersonal communications skills;
    • Ability to work & manage projects within a team structure as well as independently;
    • Motivation, the ability to take initiative and use creative problem solving skills;Attention to detail is a must;
    • Excellent organizational skills;Professionalism, dependability and punctuality are a must;
    • Sense of humor. Interest in working in an organization that focuses on social impact

Advancement Operations Intern

    • The Advancement Operations Intern will support the Operations team by optimizing the work and strategy of the Advancement team at large:
    • Support the Operations team in creating and building out the Key Performance Indicator
    • (KPI) functionality for the Advancement Team
    • Research “best practices” in Moves Management and Database Management
    • Conduct research on foundations, corporations, and individuals
    • Support the Senior Coordinator of Advancement Operations in building systems and
    • processes the Advancement Team
    • Support on donor engagement activities and events as needed for the Advancement Team
    • Clerical Duties, including filing, data entry, merchandise inventory, and assembling packets for donor meetings
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Hours: Monday-Fridays: 10 am – 5 pm from late May - Mid-August
    • Location: East Harlem

    • QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Undergraduate status at an accredited University
    • Professionalism, dependability and punctuality are a must
    • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel and Internet)
    • Previous database experience a plus (not required)
    • Excellent writing and interpersonal communications skills
    • Ability to work within a team structure as well as independently
    • Motivation, the ability to take initiative and use creative problem solving skills
    • Attention to detail is a must
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Sense of humor. Interest in working in an organization that focuses on social impact

Program Overview:
- 10 Week Program ( June 8- August 14). Note, some intern roles are asked to have earlier start dates.
- June On-boarding and Orientation Week.
- Group Events ( Speed Networking, Professional Speaker Panel, Team Outing).
- Intern roles are Unpaid: NYC Metro Card will be provided and course credit/ volunteer credits can be applied.
