MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
The Italian Linguist (Clinical Research focus) performs quality control, transcreation, and on-demand translation tasks for clinical, medical, and regulatory content in assigned projects/accounts. This role coordinates the work of internal and freelance linguists, ensuring that linguistic deliverables meet quality standards, project requirements, and timelines. The linguist plays a key role in maintaining consistency, accuracy, and compliance with clinical research language guidelines and ensures that project workflows align with the established Language Process.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performing copy-edit and linguistic review tasks for clinical and life sciences content.
- Carrying out on-demand translation tasks involving protocols, informed consent forms (ICFs), and regulatory documentation.
- Acting as a lead linguist for designated accounts.
- Taking ownership of linguistic quality across content translated internally or by freelancers for one or more life sciences accounts.
- Preparing, maintaining, and updating language materials such as glossaries, style guides, and work instructions, aligned with account-specific and clinical standards.
- Managing and resolving linguistic queries related to clinical terminology, compliance, and readability.
- Facilitating collaboration among team members and resolving terminology issues.
- Coordinating freelance linguists on assigned clinical research projects.
- Testing and evaluating new freelance linguists and vendors in the clinical domain.
- Supporting the training and development of internal linguists and freelancers, with a focus on clinical and medical content.
- Liaising with clients on linguistic and terminology matters relevant to clinical documentation.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of localization workflows and quality standards.
- Meeting or exceeding established productivity KPIs.
- Achieving individual and team goals defined by the Squad Lead.
- Performing Language Lead tasks for designated clinical and life sciences accounts.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Education
- University degree in Translation, Applied Languages, Life Sciences, or a related field or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience as a translator and/or reviewer, ideally with exposure to clinical or medical content.
Languages
- Native-level fluency in Italian (written and spoken)
- Full professional fluency in English (written and spoken)
Experience & Skills
- Strong understanding of the localization process, with emphasis on life sciences and clinical documentation
- Familiarity with clinical and regulatory terminology (e.g., protocols, ICFs, EMA/ICH guidelines)
- Proficient in standard software (Windows, Office Suite)
- Experienced with CAT tools such as XTM and SDL Trados Studio, and collaboration tools like JIRA
- Quick learner of new localization and QA platforms
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage terminology and content across multiple subject matters
- Recognized as a subject-matter expert in language quality and clinical linguistics
- Able to manage deadlines and deliver consistent high-quality output
- Skilled in providing constructive feedback and supporting the growth of others
- Effective in coordinating both internal teams and external resources
- Strong problem-solving mindset with attention to linguistic and contextual accuracy
- Comfortable communicating with clients and stakeholders at multiple levels
- Able to work efficiently in a remote, virtual team setting
