Role overview
Do you thrive at the intersection of marketing, culture and social media expertise? Our senior marketing strategist position offers you the opportunity to join WGSN’s world-class global content team where you’ll research, write, and create forecasts that help our global clients succeed and stay ahead of the curve.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in forecasting marketing trends, consumer behaviour (emerging mindsets and personas) social media strategy (the creator economy) youth culture (how Gen Z and increasingly Alphas feel and behave) and foresight (emerging concepts and future strategies. You will be exceptionally articulate in both written and visual communication and be highly skilled in interpreting global market shifts.
The team
You will also be expected to collaborate with other senior strategists across departments and will manage a team of 3 global strategists located across multiple time zones. You will be a part of a growing team of 16 people located in 7 countries who write and contribute to Insight reports and help brands make better, more informed, and strategic decisions and future-proof themselves.
Key accountabilities
- Generating report ideas. Researching, creating and delivering consumer, marketing and social media reports in written and video format to a prescribed schedule and deadline.
- Writing 3x pieces of content per month.
- Responsible for researching and writing 2 annual “hero” report forecasts.
- Forecasting the impact of social, technological, environmental, political, industrial and creative and cultural change around the world on consumer lifestyles and attitudes.
- Defining the actions needed to capitalise on those changes and directing clients on how to evolve their propositions to stay relevant to customers in a fast-changing market.
- Manage a team of strategists and contributors, editing their work, providing feedback and mentorship.
- Manage an annual budget.
- Producing presentations and webinars of your research and delivering it internally and externally.
- Working with WGSN’s consultancy business Mindset, when required, to deliver bespoke consumer insight to clients.
- Acting as an ambassador for WGSN by speaking at global conferences and seminars.
- Working with the WGSN commercial teams to support client relationships by sharing and presenting our thinking.
- Upholding a strong relationship with content teams in different regions and across territories to ensure consistency of trend messages across the company.
- Work with other verticals across the content team to develop global consumer trend forecasts to help businesses navigate macro shifts across society and industries.
- Work with the WGSN marketing team to contribute to campaigns and initiatives such as podcasts, webinars and live streams.
- Represent WGSN in the press, sharing insights on marketing and related topics.
Skills, experience and qualifications required
- Strong level of experience in writing, editing and reporting through an extensive career path within consumer research, journalism or strategy.
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of the consumer mindset across categories.
- Exceptional knowledge of the global market around consumer behaviour, generational shifts and marketing/social media trends across industries, from fashion and beauty to consumer technology, beauty, lifestyle, food, etc.
- Strong background and comfort in navigating social media to unpack and keep abreast of new trends and in-app behaviours across the globe.
- Ability to analyse data and pinpoint consumer, marketing and social media shifts and trends that will impact the global market.
- An understanding of the role data and analytics plays in commercial success.
- Excellent organization, communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work within an international team to ensure production standards, reports or outputs are consistently high and submitted on time.
- Ability to work across multiple time zones (please note that your manager will be based in NYC).
- Demonstrated strong research skills, especially understanding qualitative and quantitative data.
- Experience managing and editing a team of strategists and contributors.
- Have a deep understanding of digital and traditional marketing methods, tools and platforms.
