Senior Director/Vice President, Controller

As the Senior Director/VP Controller at WHOOP, you must have strong communication, technical, analytical and people leadership skills. You have strong knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and SEC requirements. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Manage the preparation of the consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP
    • Lead technical accounting assessments and derive proper accounting conclusions documented with technical memos for management and auditors
    • Identify staffing needs to support the build-out of a high performing accounting team. Hire, train and develop staff
    • Oversee monthly financial close process including detailed analysis and reconciliation of all general ledger accounts,  and supporting schedules. Develop a comprehensive close package and present to management
    • Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions (close process, AR, AP, payroll, equity awards)
    • Strong understanding of corporate tax provision and sales tax/international compliance 
    • Manage relationships with auditors and external accounting/tax advisors
    • Collaborate with teams and provide fact-based recommendations that support financial targets, improve profitability, operational efficiency and effectiveness
    • Partner with FP&A team on monthly forecast against budget including cash flow projections.
    • Develop and implement policies, procedures and best practices related to accounting and financial reporting
    • Lead the successful Implementation of our ERP system, with a focus on scalable processes and controls
    • Monitor, interpret and communicate evolving accounting guidance relevant to the company’s business
    • Prepare quarterly BOD slides, present as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelors’ degree in Accounting
    • Active CPA required
    • Big 4 Public Accounting experience required
    • 10+ years experience in public accounting; 15+ years total experience in the technology sector
    • Strong technical accounting experience and SEC reporting (revenue recognition, inventory, stock-based compensation, business combinations)
    • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing - you have the ability to break down complex accounting issues and articulate points clearly
    • You have a high attention to detail and will dig into transaction details to ensure you have a strong understanding of the facts
    • You have a successful track record of setting and achieving deadlines with a motivated team
    • You are flexible and have the ability to balance business priorities with the appropriate level of process and controls
