As an R&D Engineer, you’ll join our growing R&D team and be tasked with designing and building prototype hardware to facilitate the development of the next generation of WHOOP technology. You’ll work in a fast-paced environment, iterating quickly on hardware design and assembling prototypes by hand. You’ll interface closely with other WHOOP engineers both internal and external to the R&D team to get feedback on the performance of prototype hardware so the designs can be improved upon, as well as make your own performance assessments and evaluations. Ultimately, your efforts will accelerate the deployment of new technology in the market.


    • Own the mechanical and electrical design of new hardware prototypes
    • Assemble in-house mechanical and electrical components to deliver completed units for test and evaluation
    • Receive, interpret, and apply feedback from testing to improve prototype development
    • Interface with manufacturers to oversee assembly of small batches of PCBs as well as machined or molded plastic parts
    • Evaluate the performance of new electrical and mechanical components and technologies
    • Apply learnings to propose new materials, components, techniques, and designs
    • Document your proposed designs, plans, progress, and findings
    • Communicate effectively with immediate and external team members


    • Experience in mechanical and electrical CAD (Solidworks, Altium Designer)
    • Experience with rapid prototyping techniques including 3D printing (FDM and SLA)
    • Hands-on experience designing and building electrical and mechanical components and systems including soldering and rework
    • Ability to assess challenges and design solutions across domains including mechanical, electrical and optical
    • Strong hacker/DIY mindset and experience
    • Strong communication skills and action-oriented
    • Willingness to learn and grow rapidly to meet fast evolving needs of the R&D department
