Job Description
As the Head of People at Barkbus, you will own all aspects of the People function for both Barkbus Pet Stylists (Groomer’s) and Corporate Employees. You are a natural leader with immense business savvy, a creative problem solver who keeps their cool under pressure, and lover of all things people! This role will report directly to the CEO.

Role & Responsibilities

    • Manage all recruiting and hiring initiatives for a high-growth, high-caliber Pet Stylist (Groomer’s) talent pool
    • Manage HR system processing, such as new hires, promotions, salary changes, terminations, etc. through HRO and HRIS
    • Manage payroll time and attendance for hourly non-exempt and salary exempt employees
    • Assist in payroll analysis - Identifying payroll improvement initiatives and efficiency opportunities to enhance payroll quality
    • Seek innovative solutions around commission and incentive planning for Pet Stylist team
    • Work with Management to track employee attendance and forecast shifts, revenue growth opportunities, and ways to increase or improve attendance
    • Work with Management on incident reporting, workers compensation claims, corrective action notices, and performance improvement plans
    • Lead and/or consult on employee relations investigations and provide recommendations on resolution
    • Build processes & infrastructure to support performance management of field & corporate team members
    • Support & continuously improve the geographical expansion of Barkbus by providing scalable people assessments and solutions
    • Ensure our core HR processes (e.g., performance management, compensation planning, surveys, 360 reviews, workforce planning, employee handbook, policies and compliance) and systems (payroll and benefits, internal communications and support) are a competitive differentiator and truly showcase our culture
    • Support the development and evolution of company policies and training that address people priorities
    • Implement creative and innovative solutions to build team culture amongst distributed teams
    • Ensure culture is complementary towards retention - create a culture of recognition, fun and togetherness

Requirements

    • Ideally, you love people and dogs!
    • 5+ years of progressive experience working in various aspects of Human Resources including recruiting, onboarding, payroll, compliance, etc.
    • Experience working in a high growth startup 
    • Experience building a team culture amongst distributed teams
    • Experience working with a multi-state employer and non-exempt hourly workforce 
    • A solid understanding of California Wage and Hour laws 
    • A solid understanding of Injury & Illness Prevention Policies and OSHA reporting
    • A solid understanding of Workers Comp procedures
    • Expertise in coaching management on people issue resolution 
    • Ability to navigate a complex employer environment and successfully lead change initiatives
    • Experienced in working cross-functionally with multiple departments 
    • A strong ability to creatively problem solve and execute quickly
