About This Role

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Accountant that will play a critical role in leading the month-end close process within a fast-paced and quickly evolving startup studio. You will ensure our Credit Card, Accrual, Prepaid, and Cash functions are well maintained as we continue to scale the business. You will coordinate the monthly and quarterly close processes across the portfolio’s companies. You will also participate in and lead cross-functional process improvement and special projects. The role reports to the Accounting Manager and has a high level of visibility to the portfolio business and department leads. By developing strong working relationships with the portfolio teams, you will have the chance to learn about a variety of operations, as well as implement process improvements, and drive change in a diverse business environment. 

This is a full-time hybrid role (mainly remote), which will require coming into our San Francisco office 1x a month.

Role & Responsibilities

    • Prepare journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and flux analysis at month-end close
    • This person will act as a cross-functional business partner to implement automation and create improvements to optimize the month-end close
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financials statements ensuring timely and accurate reporting
    • Analyze monthly financial results and variances across accounts and investigate discrepancies
    • Manipulate and code large data sets into proper expense classification using Excel formulas
    • Lead, initiate and participate in process control, and financial reporting improvement projects
    • Administer the company credit card portal by setting up budgets, monitor spend and code transactions
    • Develop relationships and work closely with the Accounting Manager, CFO and business partners in order to provide accounting and business support
    • Provide support to external tax activities including providing deliverables
    • Support launches of new business activities impacting the accounting organization by developing strategic solutions and partnering with key project stakeholders on execution

Minimum Qualifications

    • 5+ years of Accounting experience
    • Bachelors in Accounting, Finance, or Business
    • Strong understanding of US GAAP and financial statements
    • Proficient in Excel with data manipulation familiarity (V-Lookups, Pivot Tables, etc)
    • Experience with Month-end close process 
    • Attention to detail resulting in consistent, reliable, and accurate work product
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Strong planning and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize
    • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated understanding of accounting cycles
    • Strong interpersonal skills to work well in teams or groups, formally and informally
    • Ability to identify and implement process improvements, as well as being proactive about creating opportunities for improvement
    • Experience in a multi-entity (intercompany) environment

Preferred Qualifications & Prior Experience

    • CPA, or progress towards CPA
    • Experience with Sage or other large-scale accounting systems
    • Experience working with a fast-paced, high-tech start-up or complex company is a PLUS!
