The Academic Guidance Counselor is a key role at Williamsburg Academy of Colorado and the individual who fills it provides a valuable service to WAC’S students and families.

Roles
This position works closely with the administrative team and reports to the school Executive Director. He/she is accountable for performing the following functions:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           
1) Serve as WAC’s Graduation Path Coordinator
Ensure that graduation path meetings happen for each student annually 
Coordinate scheduling of these meetings
Work with each student and family to create an individual plan for graduation, college, or the path that works best for them.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   
2) Serve as WAC’s Academic and College Advisor
Provide scholarship information and assistance to students and families 
Coordinate communication about available scholarships and programs
Provide career spotlights and other opportunities for WAC students to learn about future careers 
Ensure graduation checks happen for each student on the graduation path
Utilize student achievement data to drive instruction
Work collaboratively with the Williamsburg Learning team to support student success
Support the CMAS (Colorado Measures of Academic Success) process

3) Approve Student Schedules
Approve schedules
Approve class drops and adds
Work with Registrar to coordinate dual enrollments as needed                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          
4) Responsive Services
Respond to student/parent concerns in a timely manner
Provide direction and guidance to school leaders on best practices in supporting students emotionally
Provide families with resources as needed/requested
Provide small group instruction as needed

5) Support the Building and Strengthening of WAC School Community
Attend and support school meetings, events, and activities, contributing to a school community experience for our families
Build and strengthen the school community and family experience at the school. Share ideas to develop this program
Attend Family and Student Activities as requested by the Executive Director
Share feedback from families with the WAC Executive Director

                                                                                                                                                  

Minimum Qualifications

    • Certified CO School Counselor
    • A proven working experience with staff, students and their families
    • Integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment
    • Advocacy skills and the ability to work with other staff members to achieve overall vision for school
    • Ability to respond effectively to the needs of diverse students and families
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • The ability to manage programs and processes and integrate them into a larger school vision
    • Excellent computer skills with the ability to adapt and learn various state systems, programs and processes
    • High degree of flexibility with an aggressive growth mindset

Preferred Qualifications

    • School Experience in Colorado
    • Knowledge of Colorado State Standards, curriculum, and graduation requirements
    • A solid understanding of the Williamsburg Culture and Curriculum.
    • Positive work experience with school staff, students and their families
    • Integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment
    • Advocacy skills and the ability to work with other staff members to achieve overall vision for school
    • Ability to respond effectively to the needs of diverse students and families
    • Knowledge of Special Education, RTI, ELL, GT, and other programs for students with special needs
    • Excellent computer skills with the ability to adapt and learn various state systems, programs and processes
    • High degree of flexibility with an aggressive growth mindset
    • The ability and willingness to travel
    • Colorado resident

$55,000 - $65,000 a year
