About Us: Leadership Academy of Utah (LAU) is an online charter school serving students across the state of Utah.  LAU offices are located in Clearfield, Utah. This position does NOT require you to live in proximity to LAU offices; many of our team members work remotely from various locations across Utah and across the United States. 

About the Position: The Special Education Substitute Teacher is responsible for managing an online classroom and leading specific prepared content in classes.  This is a remote position. 

This position is from mid to late September 2025 through mid-December, 2025.  You must be available Monday - Thursday 10am - noon, and Monday - Wednesday 2pm - 3pm, Mountain time.  This position also requires availability during the week for a 30 minute meeting with the special education director.  This position has a 11.5 - 12 hours per week time commitment.  Possibility of periodically substitute teaching Monday - Thursday 8am and/or 9am is also available.  

Compensation for this position is $19.50 per hour.  

Must be able to pass a background check.

This position is responsible for the following functions:       
                                                                                                        
Teach Special Education Classes:  The LAU Special Education Substitute is responsible for managing an online classroom and leading specific prepared content in classes geared to IEP goals using platforms like Canvas and Zoom. The substitute teacher will work with and support assigned paraeducators in assisting and teaching the classroom and taking data.  Report student attendance and data numbers on a weekly basis.

Minimum Requirements

    • Proven experience working with school staff, students, and their families
    • Proficiency in Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive) 
    • Experience using Zoom, Canvas, and online teaching tools 
    • Ability to pass a background check
    • Integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment
    • Advocacy skills and the ability to work with other staff members to achieve LAU’s Standard of Excellence
    • Ability to respond effectively to the needs of diverse students and families
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a digital environment
    • High degree of flexibility
    • Quiet work environment with stable internet and computer/laptop with a camera and microphone
