The goal of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) engineering at Wisk is to build an aircraft that is safe to operate in an urban air-mobility environment. In support of this goal, you will be a part of the Systems Safety team that identifies hazards associated with functions, systems and items and develop mitigation strategies in support of the certification of the product. The Systems Safety Engineer reports to the Supervisor of Safety and Reliability Engineering and has a broad responsibility for the analysis of all safety aspects of the aircraft design

Why we need you:

    • With that vision in mind, we are looking for a Systems Safety Engineer to join our RAMS team. The goal of System Safety is to accurately assess risk to inform decision-making which results in an appropriate level of safety. In support of the airworthiness effort, the System Safety Engineer works alongside design engineers across all disciplines (mechanical, electrical, structural, software, controls, systems, aerodynamics, flight test, manufacturing) to identify, quantify and identify risks associated with the functions of the aircraft and support systems. The System Safety Engineer employs qualitative and quantitative risk assessment methods to determine the likelihood and severity of hazards. The System Safety Engineer will also flow down reliability and safety derived requirements to design engineering and flight test to appropriately mitigate risks.

What you will do:

    • Develop the System Safety Plan outlining all safety assessment processes, activities, responsibilities and deliverables consistent with guidelines provided in SAE/ARP-4754A and SAE/ARP-4761.
    • Understand safety regulatory requirements applicable to the aircraft and system development program and tailor the safety assessment process to ensure these requirements are met to the satisfaction of airworthiness authority.
    • Manage implementation of the System Safety Plan and coordinate activities with wider engineering programme management. Monitor the aircraft and system development program for design changes that may affect system safety. This includes change requests, problem reports, and derived requirements.
    • Define appropriate safety targets using airworthiness regulations and guidance material such as 14 CFR 23.1309 for developmental aircraft and systems and develop safety mitigation strategies.
    • Liaise with airworthiness authority and Designated Engineering Representative to validate safety targets.
    • Verify the implementation of mitigation strategies and provide recommendations and limitations.

What you have done:

    • B.S. in engineering and prior internship experience in systems safety engineering.
    • Previous experience interacting with technical teams coupled with excellent communication and collaboration skills
    • Understanding and experience with design safety engineering principles for safety critical systems.
    • Experience with ARP4754A, DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160, ARP4761, MIL-STD-882, or similar standards
    • Ability to communicate technical information at all levels of the organization
    • Highly Desired:
    • Experience working in an agile development environment.

Who you are:

    • You are a highly motivated, self starting individual with a broad set of skills and never afraid of facing complex technical challenges
    • You are a solution oriented individual with a strong analytical mindset
    • You have strong communication skills and can easily tailor your communications to suit the audience
    • You can adapt quickly or propose changes needed to achieve early results in a timely fashion
