We are looking for a Senior Staff Radar Engineer to join our team. The goal of a Senior Staff Radar Engineer at Wisk is to ensure the development and integration of advanced radar systems from conception to certification.  You will be part of the Conflict Detection and Resolution (CD&R) team, which is part of the Avionics and Onboard Autonomy IPT. The CD&R team is responsible for developing and certifying the conflict detection and resolution functionality, which includes traffic and terrain avoidance.

Why we need you:

    • The successful candidate for this position is a subject matter expert in Radar design, Radio Frequency (RF) design and electronics with deep understanding of radar principles, waveform design, and signal processing algorithms. The ideal candidate would also have hands-on experience developing and building certified radar systems going from requirements to concepts and creating software and hardware prototypes, flight testing, and leading the radar technology development through a certification program. The ideal candidate would demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills and be able to work across team boundaries and at multiple boundaries.

Within 3 months you will:

    • Get to know key people on the team
    • Take on early development tasks to gain exposure to the project
    • Develop an understanding of the conflict detection and radar requirements
    • Build models and simulations to refine radar performance requirements

Within 6 months you will:

    • Conduct simulations and modeling to analyze radar system performance and optimize design parameters.
    • Create a conceptual design proposal outlining architecture and functionality of the radar system.

Within 12 months you will:

    • Continue to develop design and analysis tools
    • Develop prototype hardware and software for the integrated radar system
    • Demonstrate flight capability of the integrated radar system

What you have done:

    • At least 12 years in industry or academia developing RF systems such as radar, transceivers, antennas or other radar subsystems.
    • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, applied physics or related field. M.S. or Ph.D. preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze radar system requirements to perform trade studies on performance, size, power, and cost to develop RF solutions with an emphasis on designs for low SWaP requirements.
    • Ability to use RF simulation tools, design and build prototypes, and iterate over the physical design to achieve the desired system requirements.
    • Broad software and laboratory skills for RF data acquisition, analysis, modeling and simulation. This includes instruments such as Vector Network Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators, etc. and software tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Python, LTspice, Keysight ADS, etc.
    • Deep understanding and experience with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms.
    • Demonstrated experience building plans and executing on prototype radar test programs to verify applicable system requirements.
    • Analyze simulation, ground, and flight test data to determine if the proposed design meets functional and performance requirements.
    • Mentor and provide guidance to other RF, DSP, mechanical and system engineers.

Desired:

    • Experience hiring, building and leading a multidisciplinary team while working for a radar development program.
    • Past experience with autonomous vehicles and/or airborne RF applications is a plus.
    • Demonstrated subject matter expertise in both systems integration and system engineering activities.
    • Demonstrated experience of taking radar development through FAA and/or EASA certification.
