We are looking for a Composite Quality Engineer to join our team at our manufacturing site in Mountain View, CA. The goal of this Quality Engineer is to support the manufacturing, inspection and engineering teams as they develop manufacturing techniques and processes. You will be part of the Enterprise Quality & Safety team that integrates Quality Engineering requirements within programs, processes and products.

You will be responsible for supporting development of proposals and projects related to composite manufacturing best practices. You will partner across Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) for engineering and supply chain to ensure standards, requirements and tools are established and in place for product development.

    • With that vision in mind, the goal of the composite Quality Engineer is to support Quality Engineering requirements for proposals, projects and plans and ensure they are integrated with design and production teams. These activities will help to build the first fully autonomous all-electric aircraft that performs and operates safely in an urban air-mobility environment. In support of this goal, you will be part of the Enterprise Quality team which ensures effective implementation of Quality Systems, projects and plans to support product development. Your goal is to make sure that effective Quality engagement is occurring at the floor level to drive effective production and engineering integration..
    • The successful candidate is a professional and highly motivated self-starter who can self-manage effectively across organizations independently. The candidate is a knowledgeable and technical individual who has direct hands-on experience in a composite manufacturing setting, preferably within the aerospace domain. In this role, the candidate must be technically competent with effective soft skills and aptitudes to influence proposals and projects independently across multiple organizations.

What you will do:

    • As part of the Enterprise Safety & Quality organization, and deployed in an integrated product team you will act as an interface of the Quality organization for our composite layup and assembly shops.
    • You will take part in executing company and organizational goals.
    • You will support both the department leadership and the integrated product team leaders to effectively support implementation of quality plans and requirements
    • You will help support problem solving activities including helping to improve inspection techniques, process specifications and production workflows.
    • You may help coordinate data analysis and data visualization as required to meet Quality objectives
    • You will regularly collaborate and support cross functional teams including manufacturing, design engineering, manufacturing engineering and others.
    • In some areas, you will be working closely with program IPTs, business organizations to help develop and align Quality plans
    • You will help plan and execute integration of Quality procedures, requirements and problem solving tools to support objectives. 

What you have done:

    • Earned a Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in material sciences or related discipline.
    • 3 or more years of manufacturing, aerospace, automotive or other closely related industry work experience.  
    • Hands-on engineering experience related to composite manufacturing concepts, such as fiber material layup, autoclave cure analysis, secondary bonding of composites, visual inspection, etc.
    • Demonstrated technical knowledge in interpreting design drawings, process specifications, autoclave reports.
    • Experience and knowledge with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) practices. 
    • You have a strong and applied knowledge of composite manufacturing practices, product development and design, quality systems and tools

Desired:

    • Experience performing drawing review approvals with emphasis on ensuring inspectability of the part.
    • Experience performing work instruction review approvals to ensure appropriate inspection acceptances are included in the work instructions.
    • 5 or more years aerospace composite engineering experience.

Pay Range the Company expects to pay: $91,350 - $105,000 per year - The starting base salary within this range for this role varies based on factors such as your geographical location, and your relevant job-related experience that is consistent with a business necessity.
