We are looking for a Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer with experience instrumenting complex aircraft and aerospace systems to join us in testing and certifying a new class of all-electric personal aircraft.     

Why we need you:

    • As a member of the Flight Test and Operations team, you will be working closely with Certification, Systems Engineering, and cognizant engineers from Avionics, Electric Propulsion, Structural, Aerodynamics, and Controls teams to validate and verify a revolutionary new aircraft design. 
    • Your role will involve interpreting certification requirements, identifying applicable industry guidance, and applying your knowledge of Wisk’s flight test instrumentation to show compliance to the certification authority. Leveraging your experience, you will develop installations, methods, and systems to demonstrate our Generation 6 aircraft meets the certification requirements. 
    • You will support test program scheduling, participate in test execution, and ensure flight test data is accurate and complete.  You will mentor other flight test personnel on current industry practices for flight test instrumentation and support writing updates to company Standard Operating Procedures.

What you will do:

    • Design and integrate a data collection system onto a novel fixed wing aircraft with multiple bespoke vertical and tilting forward thrust propellers and a bespoke electrical power system
    • Integration of sensors to include include strain gauges, accelerometers, temperature sensors, bus data taps, position measurement, cameras, microphones, and more
    • Instrument systems that include avionics, rotating frame, fixed frame, telemetry, pitot-statics
    • Continued support of a Flight Test Ground Control Station to support aircraft telemetry streams
    • Work with system and design engineering to achieve test data requirements on flight test assets
    • Identify appropriate third party components and materials to define the system and lead the decision process for final component selection
    • Obtain quotes and and facilitate the ordering of system components 
    • Define manufacturing and instrumentation processes / technologies
    • Support design engineers developing electrical wiring schematics, mounting provisions, and other new components
    • Provide engineering support to Flight Test  Instrumentation Technicians during fabrication, integration, modification, setup, and checkout
    • Obtaining flight clearances from the customer for installed configurations, defining methods for internal flight clearances
    • Troubleshooting and resolving instrumentation system, transducer, and test-related problems
    • Analyze, review, and validate test data to ensure flight test instrumentation hardware and software readiness
    • Interface with project / program team members and management
    • Work under general direction and train other Flight Test teammates to assist in these roles

What you have done:

    • Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics.
    • This position has responsibility to build and monitor color coded safety analysis displays to support real time test missions. Candidates are required to be able to accurately differentiate between Red/Orange/Yellow/Green/Blue etc colors for safety of flight and safety of test displays during real time flight test missions
    • 3 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Proficiency in data analysis with MATLAB, Python, or other scripting tools
    • Familiarity with the aircraft development process and planning documents of ARP4754A/ ED-79A
    • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and manage tasks to successful completion in challenging cross functional environments
    • Experience managing deficiencies, limitations and restrictions in a flight test environment

Desired:

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering 
    • Certification flight test experience
    • 3+ years of experience designing special test equipment for flight programs and supporting proposals 
    • Proficiency with NX, JIRA and TeamCenter
    • 3+ years of experience with precision test and measurement devices 
    • 3+ years of experience with flight test, flight operations, or system test

Pay Range the Company expects to pay: $118,946 - $136,720 per year - The starting base salary within this range for this role varies based on factors such as your geographical location, and your relevant job-related experience that is consistent with a business necessity.
