We are looking for a Staff Flight Test Engineer with a strong desire to create flight path trajectories and see those trajectories executed to complete certification tests to join our flight test team. You will be responsible for executing flight test events in multiple categories of aircraft but primarily as a test director on our 6th generation eVTOL.

Why we need you:

    • The successful candidate is an experienced tester of autonomous and/or electric aircraft. In this role, the candidate will accomplish tasks with little oversight and be able to lead test events. 
    • Your role will involve interpreting certification requirements, identifying applicable industry guidance, and applying your knowledge of Wisk’s airframe to determine relevant test objectives and conditions to show compliance to the certification authority. Leveraging your certification experience, you will develop test procedures, data analysis methods, and write test plans which will demonstrate that our Generation 6 aircraft meets the certification requirements.

What you will do:

    • As part of the Flight Test Operations you will act as a flight test engineer and test director for a novel type of aircraft development targeting the autonomous UAM market
    • You will take part in creating, validating, and executing flight test trajectories 
    • You will support during and after test events by monitoring live test data and reviewing post test data, making safety critical decisions and monitoring / tracking deficiencies
    • You will help support in hangar aircraft troubleshooting and engineering support
    • You will help coordinate the development, execution, and continuous improvement of flight test processes
    • You will take part in training junior flight test engineers in Wisk processes and procedures
    • In some areas, you will be working closely with certification engineers, software engineers, instrumentation engineers, and integration engineers. 
    • You will plan and execute certification flight test plans, procedures, analysis methods, and test reports

What you have done:

    • B.S. or higher typically in Mechanical or Aerospace or applicable Engineering (other degrees considered per applicant) with at least 8 years experience or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience in the testing, evaluation, and validation of airframes in flight test
    • You have a strong and applied understanding in data analysis with MATLAB, Python, or other scripting tools
    • You have an understanding of Git repositories, Docker containers, and Linux, Windows, and Mac operating systems
    • You have worked on various type certificate or supplemental type certificate certification programs
    • You have hands-on experience managing deficiencies, limitations and restrictions in a flight test environment
    • You have a strong and applied knowledge of authoring flight test plans and reports required for aircraft certification consistent with 14 CFR Part 21, ARP4754A, and equivalent standards
    • This position has responsibility to build and monitor color coded safety analysis displays to support real time test missions. Candidates are required to be able to accurately differentiate between Red/Orange/Yellow/Green/Blue etc colors for safety of flight and safety of test displays during real time flight test missions

Desired:

    • Private pilot license or higher
    • Graduate of a recognized test pilot school or equivalent experience
    • Familiarity with FAA Order 4040.26B
    • Demonstrated experience testing and certifying Fly-by-Wire (FBW) aircraft and envelope protection systems
    • Experience with flight testing electric propulsion systems including motors, propellers and/or rotors
    • Demonstrated experience participating in an FAA/EASA/TCCA Type Certification or Supplemental Type Certification program for fixed/rotary-wing aircraft or complex systems 
    • Experience with the management of compliance data and making statements of compliance to airworthiness regulations
    • Experience drafting means of compliance for, and showing compliance to, complex certification bases encompassing issue papers and special conditions
    • Experience showing compliance to 14 CFR 2X.1301 & 2X.1309 or equivalent, and familiarity with DO-160G/ED-14
    • Experience managing configuration/conformity of test vehicles
    • Experience operating/testing a remotely piloted / autonomous aircraft or remote telemetry room experience
    • Current flight analyst DER or ability to obtain this delegation

Pay Range the Company expects to pay: $146,431 - $168,311 per year - The starting base salary within this range for this role varies based on factors such as your geographical location, and your relevant job-related experience that is consistent with a business necessity.
