At Warner Music Group, we’re a global collective of music makers and music lovers, tech innovators and inspired entrepreneurs, game-changing creatives and passionate team members. Here, we turn dreams into stardom and audiences into fans. We are guided by three core values that underpin everything we do across all our diverse businesses:
• Curiosity: We do our best work when we’re immersing ourselves in culture and breaking through barriers. Curiosity is the driving force behind creativity and ingenuity. It fuels innovation, and innovation is the key to our future.
• Collaboration: Making music and bringing it to the world is all about the power of originality amplified by teamwork. A great idea, like a great song, travels globally. We ignite passions and build connections across our diverse community of artists, songwriters, partners, and fans.
• Commitment: We pursue excellence for our team and our talent. Everything in music starts with a leap into the unknown, and we’re committed to keeping the faith, acting with integrity, and delivering on our promises.
Technology is one of the most important parts of our business. Whether it’s signing up new artists; ensuring we provide the right data to Spotify, YouTube, and other digital service providers; or helping artists use the latest AI tools and make thoughtful decisions with data-driven insights – technology plays an invaluable role in our success. The engineering team at Warner Music Group makes all of it a reality.
WMG is home to a wide range of artists, musicians, and songwriters that fuel our success. That is why we are committed to creating a work environment that actively values, appreciates, and respects everyone. We encourage applications from people with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences.
Consider a career at WMG and get the best of both worlds – an innovative global music company that retains the creative spirit of a nimble independent.
Your Role:
We’re seeking a talented Staff Engineer to join the Recorded Music Distribution Tech Org at Warner Music Group. In this role, you'll help power the technology that allows independent artists and labels to distribute their music through WMG’s global supply chain — reaching platforms like Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, and more. You'll play a key role in scaling systems that ensure music gets to fans quickly, securely, and reliably — from encoding and metadata management to digital delivery and analytics. This is an exciting opportunity for engineers who are passionate about music, data, and building elegant, scalable systems that serve millions of users.
Responsibilities:
- Architect and lead the development of scalable, reliable, and secure backend services as well as customer-facing applications that power WMG’s global music distribution
- Partner across disciplines with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver features that create measurable impact for artists, labels, and fans
- Own complex initiatives end-to-end — from high-level architecture and hands-on implementation to deployment, monitoring, and long-term support
- Elevate engineering standards by mentoring peers, conducting thoughtful code reviews, and championing best practices across the organization
- Advocate for technical excellence in maintainability, performance, observability, and security throughout the entire software development lifecycle
- Shape platform direction by influencing architectural strategy and evolving systems as the business grows and scales
- Ensure operational resilience by participating in incident response and on-call rotations, driving root cause analysis, and implementing durable fixes
- Foster a healthy engineering culture grounded in continuous learning, improvement, and psychological safety
Tech Stack You'll Work With:
- Languages: TypeScript, Python
- Frontend: React
- Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS, Pulumi, Docker/Podman
- CI/CD & DevOps: GitHub Actions, Datadog, Sentry
- Data & Storage: PostgreSQL, S3, Snowflake
About You:
- You’re a seasoned engineer who thrives on solving complex problems at scale and shaping the future of technology within an organization. You bring deep technical expertise alongside the ability to mentor others, influence strategy, and elevate engineering standards across teams. You’re motivated by impact — building platforms that empower labels, artists, songwriters, and fans worldwide.
- You have 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong focus on backend or full-stack development
- Experience leading end-to-end delivery of customer-facing applications in partnership with Product and Design
- Leadership in driving architectural decisions and setting technical direction for large, distributed systems
- Expertise in building and scaling production systems on cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
- Strong understanding of software architecture, system design, and performance optimization at scale
- A track record of mentoring and growing engineers — including seniors — and leading through influence, not just authority
- Excellent communication skills to align technical strategy with executives, cross-functional leaders, and engineering peers
- A bias for ownership, clear decision-making, and delivering outcomes that move the business forward
Bonus Points For:
- Experience in digital media, content pipelines, or the music/entertainment industry
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and DevOps culture
- Expertise in security, compliance, or data governance for large-scale systems
- Experience analyzing user feedback and behavior to improve products
- Knowledge of user-centered design principles
