Who are we looking for:
Woodard & Curran has an opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join our growing firm and provide civil engineering services to our private and public clients. The selected candidate will support our national Community Development Practice and work directly with a diverse and talented group of engineers at the firm. The ideal candidate is a Project Manager with experience delivering high-quality site civil design and permitting services for projects across the firm’s geography and core markets.
What will you be doing at Woodard & Curran?
Responsibilities include maintaining and establishing relationships with clients to procure and manage the scope, schedule, budget, and delivery of civil engineering projects. The selected candidate will work directly with clients and a team to lead the delivery of projects related to providing technical advice, planning, design, permitting, and construction phase services for these projects. The role requires frequent interaction with potential clients, owners, and regulators. Business development efforts will include the preparation of proposals, project interviews, and marketing activities. The selected candidate will manage and supervise the projects developed utilizing Woodard & Curran technical and administrative staff. The ideal candidate will be able to lead and complete technical tasks as required to support the projects.
Typical projects range from site assessment/investigation to civil design and construction. Work also involves selecting, coordinating, and managing subcontractors, estimating costs, and managing the scope, schedule, and budget for various project tasks. Report writing and interaction with project staff, clients, and regulatory agencies will also play an important role in the candidate’s success.
To name a few, these projects may include:
- Site prep and development for public and private sectors
- Grey and green Stormwater solutions
- Parks and open space projects
- Landfill expansion and closures
Offering Flexible Hybrid Work Schedule: 3 days in the office a week preferred
Office location: Portland, ME
Travel up to 10%: Northern Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.

What You Will Need To Succeed:
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience with an engineering consulting firm.
- 5+ years as a Project Manager with a proven successful project management track record.
- Management experience and technical competencies with site layout and design, horizontal utility projects (water, wastewater, stormwater), site grading and drainage, and expertise serving municipalities on various municipal assignments, including permitting.Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited program. MS desirable.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required.
- A strong appreciation of and commitment to safe work practices is mandatory.
- Strong understanding of the environmental and land development regulatory framework and experience interacting with regulators.
- Ability to work independently and on large multi-disciplinary teams.
- Outstanding written and verbal skills.
- Demonstrated leadership and ability to mentor staff and develop a project team.
$125,000 - $145,000 a year
This position’s anticipated pay range is provided; final exempt salary or non-exempt hourly pay will be dependent on experience level as well as considering a % based geographic differential based on where the final candidate will be working. Geographic differentials recognize and reflect cost of labor differences between geographic markets. #LI-TB1
