Woodard & Curran has an opportunity for a mid-level engineer or scientist who can provide technical support and expertise for air permitting projects and provide innovative and superior services to our private and public sector clients. The selected candidate will partner with Client Managers in our national Environment Businessand work with a diverse and talented group of engineers and scientists at the firm. The ideal candidate has strong technical experience delivering innovative, technically superior air permitting services. The successful candidate will be an energetic, motivated, growth-oriented professional with an ability to work independently as well as lead or participate in multi-disciplined project teams.

Who We're Looking For:We'reseeking a skilled professional to lead and execute technical tasks related to air permitting and compliance. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities, including preparing air permit applications, conducting compliance audits, generating emission reports, performing applicability assessments, and developing programs and database solutions to meet air quality permit requirements and compliance standards at the local, state, and federal levels. 
 
The candidate will also carry out technical work at client sites, perform detailed analyses and calculations, and produce various reports and documentation—such as regulatory program materials, audit findings, permit applications, and air quality management system records. Strong report writing skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, clients, and regulatory agencies will be key to success in this role.

Travel up:20% nationwide 

Project may include:

    • Developing an air permitting strategy for a new large-scale production facility 
    • Obtaining air permits and maintaining compliance for industrial facilities 

What will you be doing at Woodard & Curran?

    • Prepare air permit applications (modeling experience a plus) 
    • Develop emission inventories and complete annual/semi-annual reports, including Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reports 
    • Coordinate stack testing programs 
    • Conduct air quality applicability assessments 
    • Manage Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) data 
    • Perform inspections and audits 
    • Review and support air dispersion modeling analyses 
    • Interact with state and federal air quality regulatory agencies 
    • Negotiate permit conditions 
    • Support the growth and development of Woodard & Curran’s Environmental Health and Safety and Sustainability (EHS&S) practice. 
    • Collaborate with Woodard & Curran practitioners nationwide to execute air qualityprojects 
    • Build and maintain strong client relationships 
    • Prepare proposals and support business development with new and existing clients 
    • Provide technical leadership for the EHS&S practice 
    • Support staff development and technical skill-building 
    • Demonstrate strong field and writing skills to support a broad range of science and engineering projects 
    • Exhibit excellent oral communication, leadership ability, and a positive attitude 
    • Work independently and collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams 

What You Will Need to Succeed:

    • 10+ years of professional experience in environmental regulatory compliance with an environmental/engineering consulting firm, state environmental agency, or industrial/institutional facility. 
    • A desire and drive to deliver innovative and effective services and to grow professionally and personally in an employee-focused, supportive work environment. 
    • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering or meteorology from an accredited program. 
    • A strong appreciation of and commitment to safe work practices is mandatory. 
    • Attention to detail. 
    • Demonstrated performance in analysis, problem-solving, and strong organizational skills. 
    • Ability to work independently and on large multi-disciplinary teams. 
    • Outstanding technical writing and oral communication skills. 
    • Ability to mentor and develop a project team and successfully manage project timelines and budgets. 
    • Experience interpreting state and federal air quality and modeling regulations and preparing related reports, permits, plans, etc. 
$110,000 - $135,000 a year
This position’s anticipated pay range is provided, and final salary (exempt) or hourly pay (non-exempt) will depend on years of experience, skills, education, and geographic differentials to reflect cost of labor differences between markets. For hybrid employees, the pay range is based on the office they are associated with, while for remote employees, it is based on their home office location.
