WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for a Head of Engineering/CTO who thrived in a start-up environment to join our leadership team and take an active role in shaping our engineering culture, talent, and complex challenges within Product & Engineering. You will make a direct impact on the business, not only at a leadership level, but also at an organizational, product, and customer level.
Reporting to the Head of Learning, Woven Dojo, you will be an advocate for modern development practices and achieving our vision of staying "highly aligned and loosely coupled" across our teams.
We have a hybrid work style and our office is in Nihombashi, Tokyo.
RESPONSIBILITIES
・Manage a team of experienced engineers (including external contractors)
・Drive delivery, operational, and architectural excellence within Dojo
・Establish a technology roadmap aligned with our product roadmap and growth goals
・Evolve our talent and resourcing strategy within the engineering space that matches our needs
・Make build or buy decisions to deliver capabilities that allow us to become a leader within our industry
・Oversee our controls and governance standards in close collaboration with our teams from compliance, legal, risk, security, and Product and Data functions within Dojo
OUR TECHNOLOGY STACK
You will have the chance to help us shape our current implementation, based on the following technology stack, as we scale:
・AWS, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, GoLang, React (NX)
・PostgresDB/DocumentDB/MySQL
・AWS SQS or equivalent event-driven architecture
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10+ years of experience building B2B/B2C SaaS applications using modern programming languages, frameworks, and technologies, preferably in the HRTech, EdTech, or enterprise SaaS space
- 3+ years of leading a team of high-performing software engineers, preferably in a CTO-like role within a Series A-D start/scale-up with demonstrated results
- You have experience in forward-planning and optimising an engineering budget based on a company's growth strategy and budget constraints
- You possess a deep understanding of modern software architecture patterns for both SaaS and mobile applications
- You understand how to lead and inspire others
- You have experience defining, designing, and architecting large-scale systems based on domain-driven design (DDD) and test-driven development (TDD) principles
- You are comfortable with using data to make informed decisions
- You are comfortable with speaking and presenting in English at a professional level
NICE TO HAVES:
- You have experience leading engineering for the Japan or APAC markets within the enterprise SaaS space
- You have a profound understanding of what enterprise customers would typically ask for in enterprise software at the pre-sales stage
- You can use Japanese in daily life
