TEAM
Toyota's Woven City is a fully connected ecosystem powered by hydrogen fuel cells to be built at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan. It is envisioned as a 'living laboratory' and 'ever evolving', incorporating a diversity of cutting-edge technologies. It will be the world's most programmable city. At the same time, it is also 'human-centric', serving the needs of its citizens and keeping people safe, comfortable and happy.

Our organization's mission is to create the digital heart of Woven City: a software platform called "City Platform". All digitally connected services in the city will be orchestrated and delivered on this platform. The vision includes creating state-of-the-art systems for incorporating microservices, identity, authentication, privacy, security, data broking, IoT control, and much more. The Infrastructure team is responsible for this platform's cloud infrastructure, creating a solid foundation that enables smooth service development.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for someone who not only has a strong technical background but also has exceptional leadership and communication skills. The ideal candidate would be passionate about transforming the world into a better place and is eager to make enormous impacts on the future.

As a Senior Engineer for the Infrastructure team, you will oversee the team's mission to architect and operationalize the cloud infrastructure for the City Platform. You will design bespoke solutions and set standards in a brand new problem space. You will think outside the box, exploring and experimenting with emerging technologies to solve complex problems. You will lay the foundations for inventors to smoothly realize their visions in the city of the future.

You will report to the Infrastructure Team Lead and this role's workplace type is hybrid.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • You will spearhead the establishment and growth of a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team
    • You will design, develop, and deliver software systems for improved product monitoring, reliability, and development efficiency
    • You will participate in on-call rotations to monitor and respond to incidents, ensuring service health
    • You will provide guidance on reliability practices throughout complete software development lifecycles, including architectural and code reviews
    • You will establish SRE best practices, such as capacity planning, chaos testing, and disaster recovery protocols
    • You will drive team learnings from operational incidents through blameless post-mortems
    • You will enhance development and operational efficiencies through automation and toil reduction

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields
    • 7+ years of software development experience
    • Track records in assembling teams to drive new initiatives
    • Experience with multiple modern programming languages, such as Go, Rust, Python
    • Proven track record with delivering large-scale production systems with major cloud technologies, such as AWS, Istio, K8s, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki and the Cortex architecture
    • Ability to strive both independently and collaboratively
    • Business level communication skills in verbal and written English

NICE TO HAVES:

    • Professional experience with modern Infrastructure As Code (IAC) and Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) tooling, such as Terraform, puppet, chef, github actions, Flux CD, and Argo CD
    • Working understanding of OAuth 2.0, Open ID Connect, and cloud security in general
    • Familiarity with async messaging protocols such as Kafka, AMQP, and MQTT
    • Master's degree in Computer Science or related fields
    • 10+ years of software development experience
    • Japanese language skills
