About Woven by Toyota
Woven by Toyota is enabling Toyota’s once-in-a-century transformation into a mobility company. Inspired by a legacy of innovating for the benefit of others, our mission is to challenge the current state of mobility through human-centric innovation — expanding what “mobility” means and how it serves society.

Our work centers on four pillars: AD/ADAS, our autonomous driving and advanced driver assist technologies; Arene, our software development platform for software-defined vehicles; Woven City, a test course for mobility; and Cloud & AI, the digital infrastructure powering our collaborative foundation. Business-critical functions empower these teams to execute, and together, we’re working toward one bold goal: a world with zero accidents and enhanced well-being for all.

TEAM
Toyota is redefining what it means to move. We're challenging the current state of mobility by enhancing the movement of people, goods, information and energy. Centered around three core concepts - A Living Laboratory™, Human-Centered, and Ever Evolving City™ - Woven City serves as a test course for mobility to fulfill our purpose of well-being for all.

We do this by bringing together a diverse community of people with a shared passion for the future of mobility to co-create, develop and refine innovative products and services. This cross-section of social infrastructure, mobility, and people provides a unique opportunity for inventors, residents and visitors to interact seamlessly with new technologies throughout daily life in an environment that emulates a real city.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for a proactive and collaborative Manager or Assistant Manager to join us in building and scaling our technology compliance strategy. A key near-term mission for this role will be to evolve and solidify our Open Source Software (OSS) compliance function, taking it from its foundational stage to a robust system for all of Woven City Management. While the immediate emphasis is on OSS, the role will also support our intellectual property activities, acting as a crucial interface and facilitator between our developers and the dedicated corporate IP team.

With this in mind, this unique role is ideal for a professional who is passionate about growth and can come from one of two key backgrounds:

A software development background, with a desire to dive deep into the world of OSS compliance and intellectual property to protect innovation.

An intellectual property background, with a passion for applying your skills in risk management and process building to the ever-evolving landscape of OSS.

We are looking for a hands-on partner who values execution and actively solves problems, rather than just discussing them. We especially value a "work smart" philosophy: a constant desire to automate routine tasks and improve processes, so that we can all focus on the most creative and impactful challenges. We want a partner who is excited to build with us, proactively identifying challenges, exploring new tools like Generative AI, and creating solutions that will shape the future of Woven City.

Furthermore, your role is not static. We are a team that values initiative, and we actively encourage and support you to expand your scope into other areas of technical compliance that you are passionate about, beyond just IP and OSS.

Beyond technical skills and experience, we are looking for a colleague who demonstrates compassion and respect for others, prioritizes teamwork to find the best solutions, and is open-minded and motivated to grow from feedback. We believe that true team growth comes from individuals who not only acquire new skills but also proactively share their knowledge with peers. A mindset that values fundamentals while striving to succinctly understand complex issues will be key to success in our team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Drive OSS Management Operations: Take charge of our OSS governance by supporting development teams with SBOMs, managing compliance tools, and improving our overall processes.
    • Manage Project Compliance from PoC to Launch: Act as a key partner for development teams, coordinating all technology compliance activities from the initial Proof-of-Concept (PoC) review to the final product release approval.
    • Support Intellectual Property Activities: Partner with our dedicated IP team (WbyT IP) to support patent proposals, patent searches, and clearance activities, helping turn Woven City's inventions into protected assets.
    • Coordinate Vulnerability Response: Collaborate closely with the Application Security team (WbyT AppSec) to monitor and analyze vulnerability information within our domain, protecting our products from risk.
    • Play a key role in building and enhancing Knowledge Management: Manage and improve our internal portal sites for both IP and OSS, creating a central hub of knowledge for the entire organization.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Law, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
    • Business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English.
    • EITHER 3+ years of professional experience in software development (e.g., Python, Go, C++, Java) OR 3+ years of experience in corporate intellectual property/patent practice.
    • Demonstrated ability to think logically and solve complex problems in a cross-functional environment.
    • A strong desire to learn and operate outside of your primary area of expertise.
    • An attitude to make efforts to understand Toyota's culture and its background history.

NICE TO HAVES

    • For candidates with a software background: Experience with or a strong interest in intellectual property (patents, copyrights, licensing).
    • For candidates with an IP background: Hands-on experience with software development, scripting (e.g., Python), or low-code tools (e.g., AppSheet).
    • Direct experience with OSS compliance and security scanning tools (e.g., BlackDuck, FOSSA, Snyk).
    • Experience in building and managing compliance workflows or processes from scratch.
    • A strong interest in leveraging new technologies, such as Generative AI, to improve operational efficiency.
    • Experience or a strong interest in business process automation using low-code tools (like AppSheet) or scripting.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical or legal concepts to a diverse audience.
