TEAM
The mission of the Legal & IP team is to drive innovation and help realize a safer mobility society by providing agile, effective legal support and delivering clear, strategic advice in a fast-moving business environment.
Our team covers a broad range of legal areas, including export control, privacy & data protection, antitrust, and subcontracting regulations. We partner closely with internal teams and global companies to build innovative collaborations and strategic partnerships. We also play a key role in supporting projects like Woven City — our smart city initiative based in Shizuoka — by providing legal advice, negotiating contracts, and proposing business schemes to management.
In 2024, we integrated privacy-related functions from multiple departments into a dedicated privacy team within Legal & IP, enabling us to deliver consistent, high-quality legal services across the organization.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are seeking passionate legal professionals who can go beyond traditional legal advice — leveraging not only legal expertise but also technical insight and business strategy to drive the success of our projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide legal support for research & development (R&D) activities, implementation of R&D outcomes into products, and the development of new mobility services
- Review and draft contracts in both English and Japanese; lead or support contract negotiations independently or as part of a team
- Manage and review translations of various legal documents between English and Japanese
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide strategic legal advice that drives project success and mitigates risk
- Support the resolution of labor issues and other disputes from a legal perspective
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years of experience in the corporate legal department
- 1.5+ years of experience in reviewing and drafting contracts at a company’s legal department
- Business Level Proficiency in English and Japanese
NICE TO HAVES
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Law
- 1+ year of work or training experience outside Japan
- Experience handling litigation or dispute resolution (international experience is a plus)
- Practical experience providing legal advice on joint projects or collaborations with external partners
