TEAM 
The Technologies & Standards team is a small team that is responsible for advanced technologies, open source software, standards, and information sharing across Toyota Group and the broader industry. It acts as a conduit to enrich Woven by Toyota's technology culture, with the objective of supporting Toyota's transformation into a software-first mobility company.

You will report to the Head of the Technologies & Standards team. This role's workplace is hybrid from Japan, working in the office at least 3 days per week.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for a software engineer for modern software development in C++ and Rust and supporting open source. This is a position targeted at a junior level engineer who will learn to understand how older codebases can be incrementally evolved into modern ones, while also advancing the state of the art in modern software development. Of particular importance is the ability to manage codebases with many users, working with git, bazel and different toolchains.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Involvement in the broader technology ecosystem, particularly for safety-critical and system software, to understand and influence the ongoing evolution of these fields;
    • Work with internal teams developing the vehicle software platforms, and users of this vehicle software, to identify areas where significant improvement can be achieved through technological advances;
    • Prototype new technological solutions, prototypes their adoption, and measure improvements;
    • Work with internal teams to deploy these solutions;
    • Promote the creation of an inclusive and emotionally-safe world class engineering culture.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Native Japanese Proficiency 
    • Excellent customer and partners management skills;
    • 2-5 years of experience with modern low-level software development, ideally in C++ or Rust
    • Experience working in multicultural teams and openness to multiple cultures;
    • Excellent knowledge of modern software development practices;
    • Experience deploying modern software at scale;
    • Mindset for ownership, growth, and a bias for progress;
    • Deep commitment to quality.
    • Bachelors in Engineering related field (Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Computer Science)

NICE TO HAVES

    • Contribute to open source projects;
    • Contribution to international standards;
    • Publications in academic research;
    • Presentations at international conferences;
    • Proficiency English;
    • Experience writing Rust professionally;
    • Automotive Industry or other safety-critical engineering;
    • Security-conscious software design and implementation.
    • Video Games, Simulation, or High Performance Computing.
