World Relief seeks a Refugee Group Services Specialist who will support especially vulnerable refugees in gaining the knowledge and skills that foster stability and integration.  In partnership with the Preferred Communities (PC) team, the Refugee Group Services Specialist will assess needs and barriers within the local refugee and immigrant population and create or modify curriculum which will address these needs. The Refugee Group Services Specialist will also cultivate relationships with community organizations and host presenters from these organizations to share knowledge and resources with the groups. This position requires skills in group facilitation, creating a supportive learning environment, and presenting material in ways that are culturally relevant and accessible to participants who may not speak English or be literate. Additionally, the Refugee Group Services Specialist will work with the PC team on participant recruitment, enrollment, assessment, record keeping, and reporting. 

Role & Responsibilities

    • Adapt existing cultural orientation curriculum and create or modify other curriculum as required in order to meet local refugee population needs
    • Compile and/or create additional materials and resources relevant to the local context, such as PowerPoint presentations, content-related videos, and tools and trainings from local community organizations
    • Collaborate with other staff, volunteers and presenters to host integration classes and workshops for refugee participants, troubleshooting technical issues during presentations as needed
    • Create an encouraging and supportive environment that fosters learning and encourages participants to work towards self-sufficiency
    • Educate participants on topics he/she is knowledgeable about in a relevant and engaging manner
    • Schedule speakers from community organizations and service providers who will present on relevant topics, then coach presenters on making presentations culturally and linguistically relevant for refugees who may have little or no prior education or literacy skills
    • Be familiar with and cultivate relationships with community resources that can be utilized by participants, then work with these organizations to help participants secure needed resources
    • Research topics raised by individual participants and share resources and services available to participants
    • Prepare and distribute learning materials and supportive supplies to each participant, including translated resources when available, either in person or via WhatsApp

    • Ability to facilitate a group in person and/or virtually 
    • Ability to complete tasks independently, thoroughly and on-time
    • Flexible and adaptable to needs of students and changing program realities Ability to communicate well and work closely with a team
    • Be responsive and readily available to participants, staff, volunteers, and those outside World Relief, interacting in professional manner with a customer-service mindset 
    • Ability to use Windows and Microsoft software (including Word, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint), Zoom, and WhatsApp
    • Working knowledge of phone and laptop functionality

Requirements

    • Mature and personal Christian faith
    • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
    • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
    • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher, ideally in social work, sociology, education, special education, mental health, and/or related field
    • Experience working cross culturally and with preliterate and/or non-native English speakers
    • Flexibility and desire to learn and serve others
    • Experience in teaching or group facilitation 
    • Familiar with community resources in the local area
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office   
    • Valid driver’s license, regular access to vehicle is required
$22.30 - $22.95 an hour
