POSITION SUMMARY:

World Relief seeks a Newcomer Housing Specialist to support newcomers and other World Relief program participants in finding, securing, and maintaining housing as they progress toward economic self-sufficiency. 

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Secure housing for arriving newcomers by establishing and maintaining relationships with local landlords 
    • Determine participant budget realities, in coordination with the Economic Empowerment team, when securing housing   
    • Develop intake process and eligibility criteria for assisting participants with extended housing support needs 
    • Assist participants with housing searches, liaising with landlords, and understanding leases 
    • Assist participants with rental assistance applications, as needed 
    • Educate participants on budgeting/financial literacy, household maintenance and upkeep, and other housing related topics such as housing searches, providing notice, paying bills, etc. 
    • Advocate on behalf of participants with landlords and property managers when maintenance issues persist and explore avenues for upholding tenant rights   
    • Represent World Relief on local housing coalitions and rental associations, as well as participate in State-organized housing working groups   
    • Maintain and nurture relationships with current landlords, assisting with assessing ongoing educational needs and providing follow-up housing education for participants   
    • Create case notes and maintain case file forms   
    • Assist in the completion of monthly, semi-annual, and annual grant program reports   
    • Update and maintain databases and spreadsheets for reporting and tracking outcomes   
    • Field walk-in traffic and assist participants with questions, referrals, and resources during scheduled office hours, as needed   
    • Participate in staff meetings, ongoing trainings, and other staff development opportunities     
    • Other duties as assigned 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree 
    • 2-3 years’ experience working in refugee resettlement, housing, or a related casework-type field 
    •  Experience working cross-culturally   
    • Fluent in Arabic, Dari, Kinyarwanda, Spanish, Swahili, or Ukrainian, preferred 
$20 - $23 an hour
