 World Relief seeks a part-time ELI Lead Teacher for in-person classes. The ELI Lead Teacher has the primary responsibility to prepare and teach English as a Second Language for refugee and asylee adults and evaluate their skills using the appropriate testing tools to determine their learning progress. Work Hours and Location: Most classes will be during the daytime, with some evening classes required, if needed.

This part time role is 24 hours per week.

Role & Responsibilities

    • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
    • ELI Classes
    • Prepare effective lessons for students with different education levels and learning backgrounds, with an emphasis on an inductive and comprehension- led approach to language and culture learning.
    • Teach English as a Second Language to refugee adults to help them to address the English language barrier and contribute to their full integration into their resettlement communities.
    • Assist the ELI Program Coordinator in monitoring students’ class attendance and progress.
    • Provide regular feedback to the ELI Coordinator on the effectiveness of the training materials and curriculum, as well as suggestions on how to improve the quality of the ELI Program services.
    • Administration
    • Working in-office to assist the ELI Coordinator with various tasks, such as, pre- and post-testing students, obtaining student classwork, and reporting student attendance sheets.
    • Becoming BEST Plus 2.0 Certified.
    • Work alongside the ELI volunteer teachers and ELI Coordinator to develop curriculum, as needed.
    • Assist the ELI Coordinator in planning and scheduling classes

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    • Experienced in teaching English, preferably with English Language Learners
    • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
    • Excellent problem-solving and planning abilities, and a willingness to analyze and adapt processes to achieve goals
    • A self-starter with strong initiative, follow-through, and organizational skills; must be able to prioritize, multi-task, and be attentive to details
    • Ability to train and educate adult learners about cross-cultural relationships and dynamics
    • Demonstrated ability to mobilize, convene, motivate, coach, and facilitate individuals and groups toward a common purpose
    • Confidentiality and professionalism

Requirements

    • Mature and personal Christian faith
    • Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
    • Desire to serve and empower the Church to impact vulnerable communities
    • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
    • Cross-cultural experience
    • Familiarity with refugee populations and their needs, strongly preferred.
    • Willingness and ability to commit to the position for a minimum of one year
    • Driver’s license and access to a vehicle required
    • Able to work outside of regular business hours if required
    • Cannot work more 24 hours per week
    • Experience working with adult English Language Learners
    • Up to 25% domestic travel only required

$20 - $22 an hour
