World Relief seeks a Research Intern. This is an exciting internship opportunity to help pilot a new integration self-assessment tool, by surveying and interviewing forcibly displaced people who have resettled in the Chicagoland area. This internship provides the opportunity to work alongside a team from Refugee Council USA (RCUSA), World Relief Chicagoland (WRC), and Refugee Congress to conduct this pivotal research. An individual with an interest or background with forcibly displaced populations (refugees, asylum seekers, asylees), research, intercultural communication skills, and data management will thrive in this role. A stipend will be provided.

Details
Approximately 10-20 hours/ week; hours may vary throughout year
Flexible schedule – some nights and weekends will be necessary
June 2024-May 2025 (negotiable)
University credit is available with prior approval
A disbursement of $1000/month will be provided to cover internship-related expenses such as food or travel

Role & Responsibilities

    • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    • Assist in carrying out the local implementation of the survey, including:
    • Identifying potential survey participants across all three World Relief Chicagoland office locations
    • Conducting outreach to potential participants as part of outreach team
    • Coordinating schedule & interpretation to conduct survey
    • Interviewing participants
    • Recording data
    • Make recommendations about research design, based upon implementation progress
    • Coordinate logistics of focus group meetings (date, location, agenda, etc) and implement focus groups
    • Participate in regular meetings & debriefs with the project team
    • Opportunity to assist in data analysis, if time permits
    • Opportunity to assist in drafting project-related communication, publications and reports, if time permits
    • Other duties necessary to conduct research
    • Meet regularly with internship supervisor

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    • Knowledge or skills in qualitative research, or a strong desire to learn
    • Graduate level of study preferred  Personal interest in & knowledge of forcibly displaced persons’ realities  We encourage individuals from FDP (forcibly displaced persons) background to apply
    • Strong communication skills, including intercultural communication skills. Experience working with interpreters a plus
    • Ability and willingness to collaborate with multiple stakeholders, and an ability to coordinate with many people to move a project forward
    • Good organizational skills & detail orientation
    • Strong personal initiative; ability to work independently
    • Willingness to learn, grow, and be challenged
    • Comfortable with Microsoft Office, Google Drive, & data management software
    • Access to a vehicle required
