Project Biologist (Project Based / Seasonal)

Part-Time Project Based
WRA’s Compliance Monitoring Team supports our clients by helping to implement their permits through surveys, compliance monitoring, and fulfilling reporting requirements. We are looking to expand our compliance monitoring team by bringing on seasonal Project Biologists who have experience with the special status species and environments of California. We will review applicants on a rolling basis as project volume and demand increases. We are currently prioritizing projects in the San Rafael, Richmond, Berkeley, and Oakland area, though we have ongoing projects throughout northern California.
This position is for part time, project based work. WRA may not always have projects for you to work on, either due to project availability or specialization required. Additionally, you are under no obligation to accept the work we offer you.
In this role, you will be:
- Monitoring construction crews, often working night shifts;
- Doing occasional physical labor;
- Spending full days (sometimes 12 or more hours) in the field;
- Completing daily paperwork on time and with high attention to detail
- Interfacing and communicating effectively with crews and project managers.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field OR relevant professional experience;
- Willingness to work night shifts;
- Ability to work outside for long periods of time;
- Steel-toed boots;
- Willingness to work in construction environments where safety, schedule, timeliness, and attention to detail are top priorities;
- Commitment to working extended hours, up to six days a week, per project needs;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Ability to communicate skillfully, confidently, and with high emotional intelligence;
- Ability to provide training to groups;
- Technological aptitude and willingness to learn new software programs;
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Special consideration will be given to applicants who have the following experience:
- SWPP implementation or monitoring (QSP)
- Fish salvages
- Sound monitoring
- Air quality monitoring
- Grade checking and/or RTK proficiency Protocol-level Ridgway’s and/or black rail surveys
- Protocol-level rare plant surveys
- HAZWOPER certification
- Extensive experience with California tiger salamander
$25 - $40 an hour
WRA has an established internal leveling system for our staff that maps to salary bands that have been informed by market data. Our leveling system is dependent on years of relevant industry experience, education, and the level of responsibility and autonomy at which you’re expected to operate.
We have posted a salary range that corresponds to the appropriate level for this position. In some cases, WRA may be open to considering candidates at varying levels. In your first conversation with our recruiter, we will discuss leveling and compensation with you to make sure that our expectations are aligned.
*Compensation: $25-$40/hour, depending on level of experience with California special status species and/or biological construction compliance experience.
