About the Role:
Are you a passionate and experienced watch enthusiast with a keen eye for detail? We’re looking for a Watch Authentication Specialist to join us as we pursue our vision to enable transparency in the secondary watch market. As our in-house authenticator you’ll verify the authenticity of luxury timepieces, documenting condition notes so buyers know exactly what to expect. Working closely with our operations, retail and customer service teams, you’ll ensure that each and every buyer and seller has full transparency and trust in their watch purchasing journey with Wristcheck.
This is a part-time role working weekend hours in our Landmark store. Watchmaking experience is not required - if you're a die hard watch enthusiast with an eagle eye for detail then we'd love to hear from you!
What you’ll be doing:
- Inspect incoming watches including dial, case, bracelet, movement, paperwork and box/case to ensure they meet strict standards of condition and authenticity
- Work with our watch consignment team to collect watches from professional sellers and authenticate / evaluate on location
- Use specialized tools and techniques to examine watches and identify any signs of counterfeiting or tampering
- Provide detailed condition reports on the authenticity and grading of each watch using Wristcheck’s proprietary grading system. Include descriptions of any discrepancies or anomalies
- Keep detailed notes and enter accurate data into our database, including watch specifications, condition, nuances, authentication status etc.
- Communicate quality concerns and corrective actions with internal Watchmaker and Professional Services team
- Assist sales team with customer enquiries by providing expert knowledge in watches to interested buyers in-store
- Remove casebacks and change batteries if required
- Continuously iterate on our internal authenticity guidelines by researching and staying abreast of watch authentication techniques / technologies and implement where appropriate
- Provide guidance and training to other team members including operations, retail and customer service teams on basic authentication techniques and best practices
What you’ll bring:
- A watch technician or watch enthusiast with strong technical and brand knowledge. Experience with watch authentication is preferred, but not required if there is sufficient industry exposure (e.g. 3 - 5 years of experience in watch retail, auction house, appraisal, sales etc.)
- Trilingual in English, Cantonese and Mandarin
- Strong product and watch manufacturing knowledge, with a keen eye for identifying illegitimate shortcuts
- Naturally organized, detail oriented and patient. You are a process thinker with good analytical and problem solving skills
- Independent, hands-on and proactive team player
- A self-starter that’s willing and able to take up more responsibility in a fast paced environment
