New York City /
Yieldstreet is hiring a DevOps Architect to design the next evolution of Yieldstreet’s online alternative investments platform and lead the team responsible for its development.
Our suite of reactive microservices are built on Akka and hosted on AWS. The Cloud infrastructure team’s responsibilities are to ensure that everything runs smoothly, the lights stay on, and we have prepared for bad luck with good planning.
This role is for someone who has previously developed distributed systems in a cloud native environment. You will be leading a team that is globally distributed and reporting to the VP of Infrastructure and Security.
While we're all remote for the moment, we're looking for a candidate who can be based in NYC, Boston, or Miami. When we eventually return to the office, we expect to take a hybrid-office approach where you can work from home but be in the office 2-3 days a week.
About The Role:
The most important job on the Cloud Infrastructure engineering team at YieldStreet is to keep internal and external applications available and secure. This means planning for the worst and working with engineering teams to ensure we have the proper resources available and provisions in place to fail gracefully.
How To Apply:
When sending your application, tell us about yourself, your crown achievements, your failures and your learnings and how you think they can fit here at YieldStreet. Use some of the examples of what you might do in the description of the role and walk us through some of the sample solutions.
Here are some examples of things you might work on:
Architect for Scale:
- Design our cloud footprint to be multi-tenant with guard rails to ensure that workloads run securely.
- Work with product engineers to architect applications that run on geographically distributed platforms.
- Further standardize our infrastructure and deployment methods to improve the onboarding experience for new engineers and projects.
- Develop a standard method for our infrastructure to generate the four golden metrics (Rate, Errors, Duration, Saturation).
- Report on the estimated expenses of each running application on a monthly basis.
- Partner with product and security engineers to develop applications are secure, scalable, resilient, performant, and observable.
- Improve and automate our disaster recovery methods.
- Partner with our test engineering team to develop persistent active failure testing to improve our existing circuit breakers and incident response.
- Have a leading role in resolving major incidents.
Leading and Growing a Rockstar Distributed Team Responsible For:
- Tooling for our SDLC
- Kubernetes and Service Mesh Deployments across two regions
- Kafka, Aurora, Redis, and Neptune
- Our observability stack (ELK, Grafana, Prometheus)
On the Cloud Infrastructure team, we are the first line of defense against issues in our system and thus you analyze every change in the context of a much bigger picture, assess its risk for the future, and how it impacts other applications in the environment.
Being a small team in the engineering organization that is constantly innovating while
minimizing tech debt generation, you look to eliminate inefficient processes and time consuming work by automating at every opportunity for your team members and the broader engineering organization.
You are pragmatic and you understand that your decisions can impact applications all the way up the stack. This also means you are willing to dump processes and procedures that are not productive and learn from those failures to create ones that do.
At YieldStreet, we have the goal of becoming the largest online alternative investments management company on the planet, and that means thinking out of the box to prevent the scale problems we will experience early on. You enjoy seeking opportunities to learn, onboard new tools, and teach.
