Systems Engineer - Vehicle Control Simulations

Zoox is on an ambitious journey to develop a full-stack autonomous mobility solution for cities and safely deploy such a robotaxi solution.  Zoox’s System Design and Mission Assurance (SDMA) team is responsible for constructing the safety case and validating that our vehicles are safe enough to be deployed for autonomous driving. We play a foundational role for the success of the company. As Zoox prepares to launch our technology on public roads, we are seeking a Systems engineer with strong vehicle dynamics and controls simulation experience. This engineer will work with other members of the systems engineering team to analyze vehicle feedback control systems and develop simulation models/test cases to support the vehicle safety case. 

Responsibilities

    • Develop Python/CarMaker based simulations for analysis of vehicle dynamics and control systems
    • Create a simulation framework to inject component-level (e.g. erroneous sensor, broken tie-rod, worn components such as ball-joints, etc) faults and determine fault tolerant behavior metrics
    • Extract control system parameters (i.e. delays, etc.) from existing log files 
    • Create automated test-runs for testing of brake, steering, suspension and powertrain systems
    • Create scripts and tools for post-processing test results
    • Validate system requirements through the use of simulations, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and in-vehicle testing
    • Troubleshoot test failures, identify root cause and recommend corrective actions

Qualifications

    • Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Science (Master's preferred)
    • Strong knowledge of vehicle handling, ride and tire dynamics
    • Strong knowledge of control theory, mechanical and electrical control systems
    • Experience working with one or more of these tools: Carmaker, Carsim, dSPACE ASM
    • 4+ years experience with Python and/or Matlab/Simulink
    • Collaborative team player with strong written and in-person communication skills

Bonus Qualifications

    • Knowledge of functional safety (ISO 26262) terminology and principles
    • Experience with C/C++
    • Experience working with these tools: Vector CANalyzer, AB Dynamics Flex-0, OxTS RT3000, dSPACE MicroAutoBox
Vaccine Mandate
