System Design and Mission Assurance – Functional Safety
As a traffic and road safety engineer you will be working with members of the product definition, operations and systems engineering teams to collect and analyze road network data to enable and support autonomous driving. You will be responsible for defining and gathering statistical data covering traffic patterns, driving scenarios and street level data for designing and validating sensor suites and autonomous driving algorithms.


    • Identify sources of traffic and road network data to analyze driving conditions and patterns using statistical techniques and generate reports
    • Develop databases and analytics tools to enable collection and processing of very large map based data sets
    • Create filters and search algorithms to extract specific data items from large data pools for further detailed analysis
    • Create statistical models to predict future driving behavior trends from existing data
    • Collaborate with simulation teams to create and analyze databases of specific driving scenarios and environments
    • Some domestic and international travel may be required


    • Collaborative team player with strong written and in-person communication skills
    • MS. or higher degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
    • 3+ years of relevant work experience with emphasis on data road safety
    • Traffic speed management, design speed and speed characteristics
    • Geometrical design of highways, sight distances and traffic control devices
    • Experience with creating and utilizing statistical data analysis tools
    • Experience with data models, database design, data mining and data segmentation techniques
    • Strong analytical skills and passion for writing clear and concise documents
    • Programming skills such as SQL or Python

    • Design and optimization of urban road networks
    • Creation and analysis of road safety programs such as collision reduction methods
    • Analysis of multimodal traffic patterns and their safety implications
    • Design of bike, parking lanes and other special road features
    • Analysis of road usage patterns
