Senior Infrastructure Security Engineer

Foster City, CA
Software – Product Security /
Full-time /
On-site
Zoox is looking for a Senior Infrastructure Security Engineer to join our Product Security team. The team works on the cybersecurity of the Zoox robotaxi service. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to elevate the practice and the culture of security (as applied to product cloud infrastructure and platforms that support the robotaxi service) to meet and exceed the demands of heightened scrutiny and adversary interest that will accompany the launch of Zoox services to the general public and the subsequent scale-up of our operations.

In this role, you will:

    • Find, fix, and verify security issues across our product infrastructure, leveraging both existing tools and your independent research.
    • Build, deploy, and operate off-the-shelf and custom security tools for networks, platforms, endpoints, and workloads. Develop innovative workflows that enable “shifting left” (helping service owners to understand and be accountable for their systems’ security).
    • Make our infrastructure design, deployment, and configuration patterns and infrastructure-as-code modules secure-by-design. Make it easy to request and maintain least-privilege access for regular, occasional, and “emergency break glass” scenarios in a user-friendly way that will scale as we grow.
    • Showcase operational and cybersecurity best practices by deploying and operating services owned by our team in a reliable, low-maintenance, and secure way.
    • Give architectural, system design, and security feedback on upcoming and existing systems with specific actionable proposals and technical requirements. Maintain awareness of new developments and technologies and suggest things to try as well as more substantial architectural changes as best practices evolve.
    • Partner with cybersecurity, compliance, and engineering leadership to plan and execute long-term strategies that propel the state and the security of Zoox infrastructure forward.

Qualifications

    • 4-10 years of experience across software engineering, cloud infrastructure operations / SRE / DevOps, and cybersecurity; 1+ years of experience in a software engineering role or developing custom SRE / DevOps / cybersecurity tooling of substantial scope.
    • Cloud environments (we use AWS), automation tooling, infrastructure-as-code, container-based workload orchestrators like Kubernetes, “cattle, not pets” with configuration management and immutable images.
    • Expertise with cloud security concepts, network security, common problems and their resolutions, infrastructure hardening in the cloud.
    • Persuasion, emotional intelligence, asynchronous communication skills, and relationship building skills that enable you to achieve complex goals on short deadlines by teams that do not report to you.
    • Tools of the trade: cloud security posture management (CSPM), vulnerability management, security event monitoring (SIEM), API security, network observability, incident management, and others.

Bonus Qualifications

    • Experience with datacenter security concepts, common on-premise infrastructure security problems and their resolutions, infrastructure hardening in on-site compute, storage, and networking environments.
    • You have successfully applied CI/CD principles to automate security aspects of infrastructure-as-code workflows (preflight cybersecurity checks, change management, policy enforcement, etc.)
    • Contributions to the cybersecurity community of practice, such as developing tools, contributing original research, participating in conferences and events, etc.
