Service Management and Infrastructure is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers working on a stack of critical components that handle robot-cloud communications at Zoox. 

Zoox is building a future for Riders, not drivers. At the heart of this vision is our robotaxi service. This service requires real time communication, over cellular and cloud networks, with our fleet of autonomous vehicles.
This role will need to care about the performance, reliability, scalability, privacy, security and observability of the involved services.

In this role, you will:

    • Lead, guide and grow a team of engineers working on a critical robot-cloud link
    • Prioritize safety first by understanding, contributing to and executing on requirements from our safety teams
    • Collaborate with engineers and other managers across the organization to achieve shared milestones, and with technical product management to shape team roadmaps.
    • Help balance building new features with refinement of an existing system
    • Define and own Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs) that accurately reflect the health of the robot-cloud link

Qualifications

    • Experience managing an engineering team
    • Experience with C++ and/or TypeScript
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Experience with cloud infrastructure and highly resilient distributed systems

Bonus Qualifications

    • Passionate about optimizing systems for maximum efficiency and resilience
    • Experience or managing a team that works on real time streaming services for robotics
    • Experience or managing a team that depends on cellular connectivity
    • Experience or managing a team that works with middleware such as Robot Operating System (ROS) or Data Distribution Service (DDS)
Compensation:
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $203,000 to $293,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
