Zoox is developing state of the art autonomous vehicle software for our purpose built vehicle. We believe that developing the end to end product will result in a superior customer experience.
The Robot Data Visualization team is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join the team behind one of the most critical internal tools at Zoox - a powerful, web-based application used to visualize and analyze data from our autonomous vehicles. Our tool helps engineers dive deep into how the vehicle perceives, plans, and acts in the world, and it's used across nearly every discipline at Zoox. As a Staff Engineer, you’ll lead technical direction, drive performance and scalability improvements, and help shape the future of how we debug and understand autonomous systems.
In this role, you will:
- Lead architectural decisions and implementation of new features in a high-impact, data-heavy web application
- Build rich, real-time visualizations including 3D scenes, maps, video streams, and charts
- Collaborate with autonomy, perception, and systems engineers to deeply understand user workflows and translate them into intuitive tools
- Tackle performance, reliability, and UX challenges at scale
- Mentor engineers and help shape a strong engineering culture focused on excellence and impact
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience building production-grade software, including large-scale frontend or full-stack systems
- Deep expertise in modern web technologies (TypeScript, WebGL, Three.js or similar)
- Proven track record of leading complex projects and mentoring engineers
- Passion for creating intuitive, performant user experiences for technical users
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience working with 3D visualization, mapping, robotics, or AV-specific tools like rviz/webviz
- Familiarity with real-time data streaming, video/audio processing, or large-scale data pipelines
- Contributions to open-source developer tools or visualization libraries
Compensation
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $210,000 to $289,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
