Our Story

Hello there. We’re Zopa.

We started our journey back in 2005, building the first ever peer-to-peer lending company. Fast forward to 2020 and we launched Zopa Bank. A bank that listens to what our customers don’t like about finance and does the opposite. We’re redefining what it feels like to work in finance. Our vision for a new era of banking puts people front and centre — we’ve built a business that empowers everyone to aim high, every day, to move finance forward. Find out more about our fantastic offerings at Zopa.com

We’re incredibly proud of our achievements and none of it would be possible without the amazing team here. It’s not just industry awards we’re winning, we’ve also been named in the top three UK’s Most Loved Workplaces.

If you embrace unconventional challenges, are unafraid to think differently and are driven to make an outsized impact, you’ll thrive here at Zopa, so join us, and make it count. Want to see us in action? Follow us on Instagram @zopalife

The team:
Zopa’s Point of Sale tribe is looking for a Platform Engineer to help us scale and strengthen our infrastructure. This team supports customer financing at the checkout, connecting Zopa with UK retailers and marketplaces.  In this role, you’ll ensure our systems are reliable, scalable, and secure. You’ll help automate deployments, evolve our cloud infrastructure, and improve observability and developer experience — making it easier for product teams to deliver quality software quickly and safely.

Why Zopa Manchester?
We’re building a new tech hub right in the heart of the city — with real backing, big ambition and the support of an established, award-winning company. You’ll be part of a new engineering chapter in Manchester, helping shape how we grow and build the team from day one, and create software and platforms with a purpose: to make finance fairer and more human.

We work hybrid, with at least 2 days a week together in our Manchester office.

A day in the life:

    • Helping evolve our infrastructure platform to empower developers and increase autonomy
    • Contributing to our Terraform automation strategy
    • Improving CI/CD release processes and tooling with our platform and developer experience teams
    • Ensuring our container platforms (including Kubernetes) are reliable, secure, and up to date
    • Designing scalable, self-service tools to reduce operational toil
    • Supporting infrastructure observability through metrics, tracing, and alerting
    • Working closely with product teams to foster a culture of reliability engineering

About you:

    • 4+ years in a Platform/Site Reliability Engineering or similar role
    • Solid Linux admin skills (we use FlatcarOS & Amazon Linux)
    • Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
    • Comfortable scripting in Bash or Python
    • Experience with AWS or similar public cloud platforms
    • Strong containerisation knowledge (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)

Nice to have:

    • Experience with Kafka in production (including multi-datacentre setup)
    • Familiarity with service discovery (e.g. Consul, Istio, Linkerd)
    • Knowledge of secrets management tools (Vault, AWS Secrets Manager)
    • Good grasp of networking fundamentals (OSI model)
