Our Story
Hello there. We’re Zopa.

A bank that listens to what our customers don’t like about finance and does the opposite. We’re redefining what it feels like to work in finance. Our vision for a new era of banking puts people front and centre — we’ve built a business that empowers everyone to aim high, every day, to move finance forward. The team:
We’re looking for a Software Engineer to join our growing Point of Sale squad in Manchester. This team helps customers access Zopa finance directly at checkout through retailer integrations. You’ll contribute to the design and development of systems that are reliable, performant, and customer-friendly. Whether you’re working on backend services or frontend interfaces, you’ll be learning from experienced engineers and growing your skills in a supportive, mission-driven environment.
Why join Zopa Manchester?
We’re building a new tech hub right in the heart of the city — with real backing, big ambition and the support of an established, award-winning company. You’ll be part of a new engineering chapter in Manchester, helping shape how we grow and build the team from day one.
You’ll work in a product-focused environment where engineers own their work end-to-end, deploy to production frequently, and see the real-world impact of what they build. You’ll also get to work with a modern tech stack: Kotlin, Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Aurora Postgres and more.
We work hybrid, with at least 2 days a week together in our Manchester office.
A day in the life:
- Writing clean, reliable and maintainable backend code using Kotlin
- Working on scalable cloud-based systems within a product-focused Agile team
- Collaborating with engineers, product managers and designers to build and ship features
- Taking part in planning, technical discussions and code reviews
- Building well-tested services and contributing to continuous delivery
- Taking ownership of your work — from development to production
- Continuously learning and developing your skills in a supportive environment
About you:
- You’ve got some solid hands-on experience with Kotlin (or Java) in a real-world setting
- You care about writing good quality code and value clean design and testing
- You’re curious, eager to learn and not afraid to ask questions
- You enjoy solving problems and working as part of a collaborative team
- You want to build things that have a real impact on customers
- You communicate clearly and are happy contributing to team decisions
- You’re excited by modern engineering practices like CI/CD and cloud-native tools
