Your Role
ZURU Group is building a best-in-class tax team to manage its global compliance and tax projects. You will be responsible for project managing direct and indirect tax filings in multiple countries, including participating in developing a workflow tool to track the group’s tax obligations and filing schedule, while getting exposure to global tax strategies through working in a lean-high performing team.

You will provide tax support to internal business teams and be a key contact and tax support to our finance team in Shenzhen, as well as liaising with external advisers on compliance and advisory work.

Tax accounting expertise is important to this role; you will help with preparing the tax elements of our management reports and statutory accounts. You will assist in developing CbCR data collection and global reporting packs.

You will also be working with the operational finance team closely to deliver continuous process improvements to drive efficiencies. You will participate and help drive group reorganisation / streamlining projects.


How you will make an impact
You will play a key role in a small high performing team who are ensuring that ZURU Group’s tax function is best in class. You will support the team in ensuring that the group’s tax compliance and reporting activities are completed accurately and on time.

You will manage various projects to support the Global Tax Manager in a variety of areas; constantly challenge the way we do things and look for ways to improve our process, including through automation. You will build strong relationships with other members of the finance team, as well as stake holders of the business.

What you will be doing:

    • Ensure accurate and timely tax reporting for month end and financial reporting purposes, including preparing tax accounting journals
    • Take lead on Zuru Group’s global tax compliance, including income tax, indirect taxes and defence files
    • Last Reviewed January 2024
    •  Deliver continuous efficiencies and improvements into the tax team’s processes
    • Drive integration opportunities and optimisation projects between tax and
    • operational accounting
    • Provide reporting and forecasts to improve tax performance and mitigate surprises for the business by getting in front of the business needs
    • Ensure the quality and accuracy of Zuru’s tax policies, processes and governance
    • Provide assistance on other non-tax related matters as required

Experiences

    • You will have a minimum of 3 years of tax experience within a professional services firm or a similar in-house function
    • Accounting/finance or law background
    • Strong and proven tax compliance background, including tax accounting and
    • return preparation
    • A good working understanding of NZ tax or tax in similar jurisdictions such as AU
    • and/or the UK
    • Experience with indirect taxes, or overseas tax jurisdictions especially the US is an advantage but not a requirement

Key Skills

    • Ability to succinctly and clearly communicate complex tax concepts
    • Tax accounting knowledge including provisions
    • Strong project management skills
    • Curiosity and desire to learn and engage with tax jurisdictions outside of NZ
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Sound written and verbal communication skills and ability to liaise with a range of staff across all business units and leadership levels
    • Ability to communicate and work effectively with teams based in different jurisdictions and time zones
